Thursday, July 10 – 2014: Dubai Holding announced the donation of Dhs5m for the Water Aid Campaign launched by UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on the first day of the holy month of Ramadan, to provide access to fresh drinking water for 5 million persons around the world who suffer from shortage of potable water.
Dubai Holding’s donation to the humanitarian initiative stems from its keenness and commitment to effectively contribute to enhance UAE prestigious and leading position as a capital of international humanitarian work under the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Dubai Holding’s donation will contribute to providing fresh drinking water for about 200 thousand persons in developing countries.

Bin Bayat expressed his confidence that the business establishments should be an effective and positive partner in supporting such good efforts out of the societal responsibility imposed on them by ethical commitment and obligation toward all who are in need. He also lauded the idea and aim of the initiative which aims to provide fresh drinking water to 5 million people in unpriviledged and less fortunate societies, especially in developing countries.
He added that such initiatives have a great environmental impact on improving the hygienic conditions in unpriviledged societies and the provision of better life for their people so that they become capable of producing and taking part in development processes in their countries.
It is worth mentioning that the UAE Water Aid campaign comes in the light of the aggravation of water scarcity issue in many parts of the world over the past decades.
This scarcity has resulted in threatening the life of millions of people, heralding grave dangers if world countries and international bodies do not initiate prompt plans and strategies so as to bring forward radical solutions for this issue in afflicted areas.World Health Organisation (WHO) figures show that more than 3.4 million die every year due to thirst and diseases caused by unclean water.
